QLD:Haneef compo will be compared to Rau
Lawyers for wrongfully detained Indian doctor MOHAMED HANEEF are reluctant to compare
it to any other case .. but it's already drawing parallels to the 2.6 million dollars
paid to CORNELIA RAU.
She was detained for 10 months in 2004 and 2005 as a suspected illegal immigrant.
She was in fact a permanent Australian resident missing from a Sydney hospital .. where
she was being treated for mental health problems.
Dr HANEEF has returned to Australia for mediation with the Commonwealth ahead of likely
compensation for his 2007 wrongful detention on terror charges.
Maurice Blackburn partner ROD HODGSON hasn't revealed the size of the payout being
sought .. but says it's significant and reflects the terrible injustice done to Dr HANEEF.
